already applied for Permanent residency through spousal sponsorship but now separated....what do I tell immigration?

Hello.

I am American and my husband is Canadian. we got married in January 2012 and lived together in Canada until August 2012. I moved back to the US and we are seperated right now. We have no intention of getting divorced but we are not togher at this point. When I applied for PR in Canada we both applied under spousal sponsorship. I want to know if I can still continue with my application being processed for just me for perm. residency and take out him as my sponsor? I need to know what to do at this point. do i call immigration and tell them my husband and I are seperated and I dont want him to sponsor me but I still want to continue on with applying for PR? I want them to know that I live in the US now but would one day like to go back to Canada but on my own. I dont know if we will ever get back together but I dont want misrepresent myself.
