My uncle's late wife's parents are spreading crude lies of my aunt publicly. Is this slander?

My aunt's brother has recently passed away, and she had been unaware he was ill until a few days before his passing. No one had informed her even though his late wife's family knew all of the details; when she found out and tried to visit him it was too late. Now that he's passed, his late wife's family has published a story about how his family, my aunt in particular, had abandoned him, and said other crude and nasty lies about her (they've named her in their stories, I belive). They posted this story on Facebook and published it in the local news papers.

Does this classify as slander, and are there any legal actions we can take?
