Cell phone bill dispute.

While living in New Zealand my Canadian rogers sim card was stolen.  I did not notice as I am not presently using it.  The person who stole my sim card has made 6000 dollars worth of phone calls and I only realized the charges had been made when the bill was charged to my credit card.  Rogers is saying I am responsible for the bill even though I did not make the charges.  I have filed a police report in NZ which seems to be going nowhere.

So my question is there some legal action I can take with rogers so that I do not have to pay this phone bill?  I have spoken with them and they are unwilling to decrease the bill.
